Saunton Beach Clean and Ocean Plastic Recycling Workshop | North Devon

We were proud to deliver a community beach clean and ocean plastic recycling workshops at Saunton Beach and Croyde in North Devon, bringing together families, schools, and local volunteers to protect one of Devon’s most iconic coastlines. The workshop has recently won an award by North Devon Council Flourishing Culture Awards and Ecotribo has been featured by the BBC celebrating North Devon Innovation for what we are doing in the green economy.

With over 100 people attending, the event showed how beach cleans in North Devon combined with hands-on eco workshops can educate, inspire, and create real environmental impact.

Community Beach Clean at Saunton Beach, North Devon

Working in partnership with our friends at Earth Action North Devon, we were a part of large-scale Beach cleans, removing marine litter from the shoreline and dunes. Volunteers of all ages helped collect and categorise waste, contributing to both local conservation and national research.

Together, we achieved:

  • 83kg of beach plastic removed from Saunton Beach

  • 100 mermaid purses collected and logged with The Shark Trust

  • Valuable data supporting marine protection in North Devon

  • Recycled the waste into our ocean plastic carabiners to continue conversations

Beach cleans like this play a vital role in keeping Devon’s beaches safe for wildlife, surfers, and future generations.

Ocean Plastic Recycling Workshop for Families and Schools

Following the beach clean, Ecotribo hosted a live ocean plastic recycling workshop on Saunton Beach, designed for children, families, and school-aged groups.

We demonstrated how plastic pollution can be transformed through eco design and the circular economy, showing participants how ocean plastics are:

  • Cleaned and processed

  • Melted and moulded

  • Re-designed into useful, long-lasting products

What we did Right on the beach:

  • Turned discarded fishing ropes into recycled plastic carabiners

  • Made 25 carabiners live on site

  • Gifted the finished items to children to inspire environmental responsibility

These school-friendly eco workshops help bring sustainability, recycling, and climate education to life in a practical and memorable way.

Environmental Education Through Hands-On Workshops in Devon

Our eco workshops held in Devon are the perfect school sustainability workshops. They are are designed to support schools, youth groups, and community organisations by providing:

  • Curriculum-linked environmental education

  • Practical learning around plastic pollution and recycling

  • Clear examples of the circular economy in action

  • Positive outcomes for kids to demonstrate creative solutions

By running workshops directly on the beach, students can immediately connect plastic waste with its impact on marine ecosystems.
